![]() The parade begins at the Angel of Independence in Zona Rosa, and usually travels through the city streets before reaching the city’s iconic Zocalo. While there are plenty of parties taking place in the bars and clubs populating the Zona Rosa neighborhood, we have to say the Pride Parade is the highlight of the weekend celebration. With so much experience under its belt, it comes as no surprise that Mexico City Pride knows how to throw a good time. Although it took some time, the local LGBTQ movement finally gained traction, and the inaugural Mexico City Gay Pride transpired in 1979. In 1959, the local Mayor Ernesto Uruchurtu, all gay bars in Mexico City, with the intention of 'cleaning up' the city and prohibiting any LGBTQ promotion. While Mexico City continues to be an LGBTQ hotspot, with gay and lesbian travelers flocking to the city's gay area, Zona Rosa, all throughout the year. ![]() Mexico City Gay Pride – or Marcha del Orgullo LGBT de la Ciudad de México as it's known locally takes place every June, and turns the city on its head with a host of LGBTQ-related events, including an incredible Pride Parade. Mexico City is already well known for its lively gay scene, so you can imagine that celebrations reach new heights during Pride. Mexico City Pride truly is one of the largest, wildest and crazy gay pride events in the whole of Latin America! In fact, it is only second to São Paulo Pride, attracting roughly 250,000 people each year.
